Imagination Library set for newborns

Miami Lakes residents can sign up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a free children’s reading program that mails a new book to the home of a new born up to 5 years old. Every child can have books of their very own, at no cost to the parents, thanks to the program.

The key to proficiency in reading is to start early and begin reading to children the day their are born, according to the program. Additionally, the more words a child hears, the larger the child’s vocabulary and the more likely he or she will be a proficient reader.

To participate, fill out and send in a registration form by contacting Jackie Calzadilla at CalzadillaJ@miamilakes-fl.gov. In about eight to 10 weeks after the registration form has been approved, a new, carefully selected book will be mailed each month in the child’s name directly to the home.
