Community Wednesday, July 1, 2015

Miami Lakes Cultural Affairs Committee is hosting the 12th annual Fourth of July Concert and Fireworks Shop on Saturday, July 4, at Miami Lakes Picnic Park West, 15151 N.W. 82 Avenue.

The festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and appetites to enjoy the offering of a wide variety of food trucks.

Headlining this year’s concert is the Old Skool Gang, a performance group inspired by Motown artists and similar music.

Paul Lewis, entertainment executive and former KC and the Sunshine Band member, teamed up with Darrick Gray, Craig “Silqe” Edwards, and Moses T. Talbot III to form the Old Skool Gang. Their R&B, soul, and funk fusion sounds will have the audience on its feet reminiscing to the likes of Marvin Gaye and The Temptations.

Parking around Picnic Park West perimeter will be limited and Miami Lakes will provide free shuttle service to the event from Miami Lakes Government Center, 6601 Main Street. The free service will run every 10 minutes from 6 to 8:40 p.m. and will resume at the conclusion of the fireworks show with the last bus department Picnic Park West at 11:30 p.m.

Alcohol, fireworks and pets are not permitted on the shuttle or in Picnic Park West. For more information about the event, contact Special Events and Committees coordinator Clarisell De Cardenas at decardenasc@miamilakes-fl.gov, or 305-364-6100.
