Kiwanis Club of Greater Miami Lakes hosts annual Square Dance October 6 to benefit ELIMINATE

Community Thursday, October 4, 2018

After having very successful events in the past, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Miami Lakes is pleased to announce that it will hold its third-annual square dance to benefit ELIMINATE on Saturday, October 6 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Roberto Alonso Community Center in Royal Oaks Park located at 16500 N.W. 87 Avenue.

There will be a professional square dance caller who will be teaching beginners how to square dance. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the event, as well as various items up for purchase in a silent auction. The ticket price for the event is $15 person. Ticket purchasers can make out their check to Kiwanis International Foundation, a 501c3 organization, for tax purposes which are tax deductible as allowed by law.

The Kiwanis Club is presently soliciting donations from local businesses and individuals for the silent auction. Last year’s auction sold items like gift baskets, gift cards to local restaurants and stores, high end golf clubs by Odyssey and more. Individuals or businesses who wish to make a donation for the silent auction, the Kiwanis Club will gladly arrange for pick-up of the item.

To purchase tickets for the event, or to make a donation for the silent auction, contact an officer of the Kiwanis Club – Allen Albrecht (305) 558-8657 or text (786) 208-3177. Thomas Freiwald at (305) 582 3280 or Diana Fernandez at (305) 586-8736.

Kiwanis International and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) joined forces on a five-year project to raise $110,000,000 to eliminate maternal and neo-natal tetanus in third world countries. This project was appropriately named the Eliminate Project (ELIMINATE,) and for just $1.80 a child or mother is vaccinated against tetanus.

To date, over 100 million dollars has been raised towards meeting that goal. This goal has been reached thanks to the efforts of Kiwanis clubs worldwide and sponsored leadership clubs such as Circle K International (CKI) clubs at the collegiate level, Key Clubs at the high school level, Builders Clubs at the middle school level and K-Kids clubs at the elementary school level. The Kiwanis Club of greater Miami Lakes is proud to sponsor Service Leadership Programs (SLPs) at the following local schools:

• Key Clubs at Barbara Goleman Senior High, Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High, American Senior High, Miami Lakes Educational Center, Hialeah Gardens Senior High, Jose Marti MAST 6-12 Academy, and Mater Lakes Academy High School.

• Builders Clubs at Milam K-8 Center Middle School, Hialeah Gardens Middle School, and Bob Graham Education Center.
