Miami Lakes Branch Library posts special activities, events during June

Miami Lakes Branch Library announced the following programs are available for the public during June:

Summer Reading Program: This year’s program runs from now to August 1. No matter your age, all are eligible for a chance to win a fabulous prize. Just read or listen to a book, attend a library program or download and listen to an eBook for a minimum of two hours a week.

For Children and Families:

“Go” Club of Miami Lakes – Has chess lost its thrill for you? Come try “Go,” a thought provoking strategy game from ancient Japan. Meets from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, June 20 and 27.

Every Hero Has A Story: What's Your Super Power? – Children will learn about real life every day heros and what makes them special. Limited to 25 participants and best for ages 7-12. Meets at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 18.

Superhero Balloon Workshop – Jimmy Picos from the Balloon Experts will show children how to use balloons to create their very own super hero. Program made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27.

Home Depot Kid’s Workshop – A hands-on workshop where participants can learn to create and build something for their home with easy to use tools and materials. What you make, you keep! Registration is required for ages 6-12 and programing limited to 25 participants. Program made possible by the Miami Lakes Home Depot at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 25.

Corey the Wildlife Girl – Corey will share real wild animals and teach attendees all about wildlife. Program made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 20.

For Teens:

Tween Book Club – A children’s book club for ages 8-12 that meets once a month to discuss the chosen book. This month’s title is “The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate” by Jacqueline Kelly. Meets at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20.

Unmarked! Matinee – Teen Club presents a series of films celebrating heroes, real or fictional for ages 13-19 years at 3 p.m. The final day is Wednesday, June 24, featuring "Summer Wars."

For Adults

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart’s Outreach – A member of Rep. Diaz-Balart’s staff will visit the library to discuss federal issues or any problem a constituent may have with a federal agency from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24.

Miami Lakes Branch Library is located at 6699 Windmill Gate Road and is open Monday and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The branch is closed on Sundays. For more information, call 305-822-6520.
