Miami Lakes Branch Library sets free events and programs for May

Miami Lakes Branch Library announced the following programs are available for the public during May:

For Children and Families:

Paws to Read - Certified therapy dogs listen to children read aloud which can help with reading skills. Meets at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9.

Saturday Matinee at the Library - Miami Lakes Branch presents family friendly films. Movie for May is “Boxtrolls.” Presentation is at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.

Moving Up and Head - Your Child’s Transition – The workshop targets families of children transitioning to Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle or High school, and helps parents to develop the skills they need to be effective partners with school staff. Program is sponsored by the Parent Academy of Miami-Dade County Public Schools in partnership with the Miami-Dade Public Library System. Meets at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 18.

For Teens:

Teen Club presents Movie Night – Teens, ages 12-18, enjoy geek movies on Movie Night. This month’s feature is “Godzilla” at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5. 

Teen Club: Games and More – Teens meet to play video games, watch anime, draw or discuss books. For ages 12-19 at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12. 

Tween Book Club – A children’s book club for ages 8-12 that meets once a month to discuss the chosen book. This month’s title is “Gregor the Overlander” by Suzanne Collins. Meets at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 23.

Special Effects Makeup Workshop for Teens- Join artist Adrienne Tabet House of Makeup Artistry on Tuesday, May 26, to learn special effects makeup techniques to help attendees create their own hero. Program made possible by the Town of Miami Lakes Educational Advisory Board.

For Adults: 

Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr.’s Mobile Outreach – An opportunity for the community to speak with the Commissioner and/or his representative at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 11. 

Book Discussion Group – This month’s title is “Winter in Madrid” by C. J. Sansom. Meets at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19.

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart’s Outreach – A member of Rep. Diaz-Balart’s staff will visit the library to discuss federal issues or any problem a constituent may have with a federal agency from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27.

Miami Lakes Branch Library is located at 6699 Windmill Gate Road and is open Monday and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The branch is closed on Sundays. For more information, call 305-822-6520.
