The Miami Lakes Garden Club will host an evening with speaker Ginny Stibolt on Monday, October 22 at 7 p.m. at the Optimist Club House at 6411 N.W. 162 Street. The event will be free and open to the general public.

The presentation will be an informational how-to on building a yard or garden with plants from the Florida native landscape. The 40-minute speech will answer questions concerning how to replace a yard with exotic plants with an easy-tocare- for native landscape that will support native wildlife like birds and pollinators.

Plants native to the region will help make the landscape more resilient and create an authentic reflection of “the real Florida.” There are advantages to both a slow transformation and an overall change. Both pros and cons will be discussed.

Stibolt is a botanist, educator, and life-long gardener. Since moving to Florida in 2004, she has written four peer-reviewed books on Florida gardening all published by University Press of Florida.

She has also coauthored Climate-Wise Landscaping, which was published this year. Additionally, she has written hundreds of gardening and nature articles for various publications. For more information about Stibolt, visit www.Green GardeningMatters.com.
