Miami Lakes Elderly Affairs Committee, Youth Activities Task Force, and Cultural Affairs Committee recently hosted the Art Collaborative at Town Hall. More than 40 creative entries made the competition steep.
First, second and third place winners were awarded in five categories. The winners, beginning with first place from left to right, included:
• Professional artists – Barbara Hesse Baron, Herminia C. Ibarra, and Kenia Rarick;
• Amateur artists – Luz Aguilar, Marisa Brunetti, and Sally Smith;
• Elementary school – Felipe Perez, Zamira Hernandez, and George Chen;
• Middle school – Jeilyn Diaz, Bellanee Plaza, and Guadalupe Cabrera;
• Senior (60+ years) – Esther Espinel, Luis Alberto Sanchez, and Pilar Inguanzo.
A special Peoples Choice Award was presented to Luis Alberto Sanchez (Senior category) based on votes on social media.
“The Art Collaborative is an excellent outlet for the creative minds in our Town to display their talent,” Councilmember Frank Mingo said. “Showcases like these encourage the development of culture in our Town and I look forward to seeing this event continue.”
The Art Collaborative was funded by a Community for a Lifetime Support Project for Elders Grant, and includes an intergenerational component allowing youth volunteers to work with seniors.
