Town of Miami Lakes kicked off its Lake Quality Awareness Month on August 2 with an educational event at Graham Park/Meadow Walk Park near Town Center.
The free event featured educational booths with information about the best management practices to maintain the cleanliness of lakes, and community service opportunities for high school students, as well as food trucks for a bite to eat.
This is the second year the Town has celebrated August at Lake Quality Awareness Month, a designation established by the Neighborhood Improvement Committee (NIC) and Councilmember Tony Lama. The purpose is to raise awareness about the quality of the lakes in Miami Lakes and to recognize the important role that the lakes play in the Town’s public image and recreational life.
“More so that our tree lined streets, our lakes establish Miami Lakes as unique among all other municipalities in Miami-Dade County,” said Lama. “It continues to be my goal to ensure that we do all we can to protect our 32 lakes. This event was about educating our residents on how we each can play a role in the maintenance of our lakes.”
The mission of the Town’s NIC is to recommend, promote, and create projects and activities that will beautify and improve all neighborhoods in a collaborative and comprehensive manner. NIC also promotes efforts that encourage a physically active, sustainable, and engaged community in Miami Lakes.
