Miami Lakes Library Programs in June

   The Miami-Dade County Library branch in Miami Lakes is offering the following online and in person classes.  Space is limited; in some cases, you must register in advance for online events.

Florida Licensing on Wheels 

Fri., June 3 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

With the FLOW program you can renew a driver’s license, get a replacement license, change a name or address on it, get an ID card, renew a vehicle registration or purchase a specialty license plate. Registration is required. Ages 18+.

Crazy Eddy’s Juggling Show **   Summer Reading Kick-off

Sat., June 4 11 a.m. - noon  Start the Summer Reading Challenge with an interactive and fun-filled juggling and comedy show. All ages.

Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing for Toddlers en dos idiomas Summer Stories

Tues., June 7, 14, 21, 28 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Bilingual stories, songs and activities. Ages 18 mos. - 3.

Manga Drawing 101 **

Tues., June 7 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Learn to draw characters in the style of Japanese comics and graphic novels with instructor David Sexton. Materials provided. 

Ages 8 - 18.

The Lost Pirates **

Miami Children’s Museum original theater production. What happens when three captains are shipwrecked? Who becomes captain of Watson Island?

Sat., June 11 2 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. All ages.

Father’s Day Joke-Off

Sat., June 11 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.  Share your best family-friendly “Dad Joke.”  Each participant will get a small prize while supplies last. All ages.

Arrgh Questions - Pirate Facts Online Event

Sat., June 18 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. Historian Dr. David Head discusses whether pirates had parrots, buried treasure and other fun facts.

Ages 12+.

Chess Enthusiasts

Tues., June 21, 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. Play the game with other fans at the branch.

Ages 8+.

Miami Lakes Youth Advisory Board

Wed., June 22 

4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Earn community service hours and make the library a better place for you and your friends. Visit the branch to submit a volunteer application and show a photo ID. 

Ages 16 - 19.

Rev+Flow Functional Fitness Online Class or in person

Thurs., June 23, 30 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Certified instructor leads low impact strength and balance exercises. 

Ages 12+.

Robot Petting Zoo **

Sat. June 25 11 a.m. - Noon  Meet interactive robots, built/coded in hands on activities. Presented by the Museum of Discovery and Science. 

Ages 8 - 12.

Intro to Sewing **

Sat. June 25 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. Designer Antonio teaches how to use a sewing machine and you’ll make a summer bag. Materials included. 

Ages 8 -18. 

Scratch Coding Basics - Online Class

Mon., June 27 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Learn to program and make interactive games, animation, art and stories using the Scratch program. 

Ages 8 - 12.

Hurricane Science and Forecasting Online Event

Tues., June 28  6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. University of Miami presentation on the science of hurricanes, how they are forecasted, the current research and predictions for the 2022 Atlantic storm season. 

Ages 18+

     The library is at 6699 Windmill Gate Rd. It is open Mon. - Thurs., 9:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.; Fri. and Sat. 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., closed Sunday.
