Ambrosio Hernandez of Miami Lakes and anchor of Univision Ch-23’s “Noticias 23” newscast and Reporter Tayhana Garcia brought their lights, microphones and cameras to broadcast live at 6 p.m. from downtown Miami Lakes on Feb. 6.
The episode had segments about blasting that happens during limestone mining. Residents Abel Fernandez and Hope Reynolds said during prerecorded interviews that blasting has damaged their properties. Councilwoman Marilyn Ruano said she hoped damage to buildings will not result in a tragedy.
Mayor Manny Cid described efforts by the Blasting Advisory Board and Fla. Rep. Tom Fabricio, R-Miami Lakes, to get the issue heard at the state capital.
Cid also discussed drainage improvements and the Northwest 59th Avenue bridge project.
Hialeah-Miami Lakes High School’s band, cheerleaders and dancers performed on the program. The show drew a large crowd of spectators to the lawn in front of Chela’s Cocteleria on Main St.
