Our Neighborhoods: Celebration Point

Community By David Snelling, Reporter Tuesday, December 17, 2019

History
Celebration Point is a condominium community built by The Graham Companies in the mid-1980s that is on the east side of Miami Lakes.
Located at 15549 Miami Lakeway North, it is a triangular shaped property that points east toward a 60-acre lake.
There are 434 units spread among 22 gold painted buildings that are two or three stories tall.
The property’s 13 acres are nestled beneath mature oak trees. It is near several schools and is just east of Northwest 67th Avenue and south of the Palmetto Expressway.
Amenities
There is a lot of wildlife in the neighborhood, including an alligator. Signs warn residents away from swimming or boating in the lake, said longtime homeowner Janet Lyons.
“We had to send an email blast to caution residents who like to walk their dogs by the lake,” Lyons said.
Still, the lake is a draw for homeowners who like to picnic nearby.
There is also a clubhouse and swimming pool in the center of the complex.
Lyons said she likes the water elements in the community, including fountains.
“It’s beautiful,” Lyons said.

Realtor Mariana Bass has lived there for more than 30 years and owns three condos.
“The community is a mixture of young, middle-aged and senior citizens,” Bass said.
Bass, 70, likes Celebration Point so much that she convinced her parents to move there from Miami in the late 1990s.
Melanie Anthony, a retired teacher and 22-year resident, said though the community is not gated, it is protected by security guards who roam in golf carts and are on duty 24 hours, seven days a week.
Anthony, 67, said
Celebration Point is relatively quiet and residents walk their dogs or jog at night.
“It’s the best community I’ve ever lived in,” said
Anthony, who previously lived in Miami and North Miami.
Lyons agreed.
“I loved it 30 years ago and I still love it today,” she said of her one bedroom, one bath unit.

Who lives there
Miami Lakes Councilman Luis Collazo is a former resident and still owns a condo there.
Collazo said Celebration Point is the best affordable place for first time home buyers or empty nesters who are downsizing.
“I loved living in
Celebration Point,” said Collazo, who currently lives in the Windmill Gate development with his wife, Clarisell De Cardenas, communications director for the town of Miami Lakes, and their two sons.
During their stay at
Celebration Point, Collazo said he enjoyed fishing and riding a bicycle.
“Although we don’t live there any longer, we loved the sense of community we shared with all of our neighbors,” he said.
Collazo said volunteers who serve on town committees also live in Celebration Point.
What it costs
Units listed for sale or recently sold range from $165,000 for a one bedroom, one bath unit to $267,000 for a two bedroom, two bath condo.
Monthly homeowner association fees for properties offered for sale range from $363 to $448.
