Our Neighborhoods Lake Elizabeth

Community By Megan Jacobo, Reporter Thursday, February 6, 2020

History
Lake Elizabeth was developed during the late 1980s and early 1990s by The Graham Companies, which grew the 6.5 square mile town from its dairy farm.
Similar to many of the company’s developments in town, properties in Lake Elizabeth are built around water.
The lake was named for Elizabeth Graham, who married and is known as Elizabeth Martinez. She is executive vice president of residential properties for the company.
The community is well established and has about 80 homes. Some houses are on large lots; many have in-ground pools as well as lake views.
Most of the homes are custom built and have two stories and two-car garages.
It’s possible to enter the community along
Northwest 82nd Avenue, west of Picnic Park West.
Amenities
There is a guard house on Oak Lane that leads to several communities including Lake Elizabeth.
Guards screen vehicles and jot down tag numbers.
There is a pocket park inside the neighborhood.
The community is close to the Park Centre Shops and Picnic Park West. The park is a magnet to those who exercise outdoors. It hosts many town events, including the Farmer’s
Market; Yoga in the Park; free nighttime movie screenings and other activities.
The Palmetto
Expressway and Interstate 75 are both nearby.
The A-rated Bob
Graham Education Center, for students enrolled in kindergarten through eighth grade, is close to the community as is a Winn-Dixie supermarket at the Royal Oaks Plaza shopping center on Northwest 154th Street.
Who lives there?
There is a mix of young families, local business owners and retirees in the community.
Many residents have lived there since the neighborhood was first established.
Jim Hamilton, owner of the Miami Lakes Sports Shop on Main Street, has been a resident since 1988.
“It’s a quiet section of Miami Lakes,” Hamilton said about his neighborhood. “It’s very peaceful. I like the lake and the [tree]canopies. We enjoy that aspect.”
What does it cost?
Homes listed for sale range from $650,000 to $852,000.
Each property owner pays $285 in an annual homeowners association fee and an additional $438 each year to maintain the lake.
