Finn is a 5-year-old miniature Australian Shepherd who is a pet of Aimee and Richard Hayden and their six children.

Finn has a red merle (patches of color) coat and distinctive eyes -- one has a blue iris, the other is  brown --  a condition called heterochromia.

The variation in his eyes does not affect his vision. The Haydens think he’s a wonderful dog.

“I work at home and he sits next to me all day,” said Aimee Hayden.
     Finn enjoys three daily walks.

He also likes to take shoes and socks and put them everywhere but in their correct place.

“It’s not cute, because you can’t find the shoe when you want to go out,” Hayden said.

But all is forgiven. Finn has never damaged anything, except for the peace of mind of the family’s other pet, a Pomeranian dog called Lady, who is 14.

“She hates him,” Hayden said. “He wants to play, but she’s not having it.”

She called Finn “sweet, smart and loyal. He’s wonderful with my kids. He tolerates all their pokes and pulls.”

Finn has adapted to the family lifestyle, Hayden said.

“What a breed,” she said. “I love this breed.”

Something she has to watch out for: Australian Shepherds are known for their skills at herding and running.

“He is very fast,” she said. “If he ever takes off, I’ll never catch him.”
