Meet Kiwi and Jules, a pair of eight-month-old parakeets who act like love birds.
The pair live together on the west side of Miami Lakes and are cared for by the Waller family: Dad Alec and kids Tate, Ashwin, Kit and Georgia.
The household includes au pair Laura Schilling, who says the birds enjoy playing with the kids.
“Sometimes we take them outside to play with water, or the kids play with them,” Schilling said.
Kiwi, the green male bird, joined the family in December 2025.
Jules, a blue girl, followed shortly after when the family realized that parakeets are social creatures.
They are very affectionate with each other and he will clean her feathers. Sometimes they pretend to fight.
Among their toys is a mirror, which prompts more fun.
“They dance with each other in the mirror,” Schilling said.
Schilling hears the birds chirping and singing throughout the day, but says they’re quieting down as the weather gets hotter.
