‘Pinning ceremony’ for new police chief

    Miami-Dade Police promoted Lt. Jose “Gonzo” Gonzalez to the rank of major on June 26.

     Gonzalez had been the interim leader of the agency’s division that protects the Town of Miami Lakes.

     While he will participate in the agency’s semi-annual promotion ceremony, Town Manager Edward Pidermann is also going to conduct a special “pinning” ceremony during the July 11 council meeting. 

     Council meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. and are held at Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St.

     Pidermann said in an email to staff that he wants to “celebrate this momentous occasion at the local level” and that Gonzalez’s family will be invited to attend.

     “Please join me in congratulating Gonzo as he embarks on his new challenge, leading the great men and women who keep our town safe,” Pidermann said.
