The Miami Lakes Toastmasters Club will host Anita Fain Taylor delivering her third place World Championship of Public Speaking speech, “it is what it is, and it ain’t what it ain’t,” at Miami Lakes Educational Center on Tuesday, October 16 at 7 p.m.

Each year, the Toastmasters International Convention culminates in the final round of the International Speech Contest, where the world champion of public speaking is chosen. In this exciting event, 10 contestants from all over the world deliver speeches that are evaluated by a panel of experienced Toastmasters.

After a year of competing in club, area, district and semifinal competitions, the contestants advance for the chance to win this prestigious designation. Taylor is a local district 47 Toastmaster, and beat out about 30,000 Toastmasters from around the world to advance to the international competition. Her win this year is even more relevant since the three winners of the event were women for the first time in the history of Toastmasters.

With this win, Taylor joins the prestigious World Championship of Public Speaking Toastmasters with other notable winners such as Cavett Robert, who won the contest in 1942 and went on to found the National Speakers Association. Miami Lakes residents and others are invited to join at the October 16 meeting to hear Taylor’s award-winning speech and to learn more about Toastmasters.
