Push-in ceremony set April 8 for Miami Lakes new Fire-Rescue truck

A push-in ceremony to welcome the new fire rescue unit at Miami-Dade’s fire station No. 64 will take place at 10 a.m., Monday, April 8, at 15325 N.W. 77 Court in Miami Lakes.
The new unit will help increase the emergency response time for residents living on the west side of Miami Lakes.
For some time now, town officials have been lobbying the county for a new fire rescue unit but Miami-Dade lacked the money.
This year outgoing Miami-Dade’s fire chief Dave Downey was able to secure funding for the new unit.
To increase the emergency response time on the west side of town since the fire station on N.W. 67th Avenue near the Palmetto Expressway is frequently caught in traffic, the west-side fire station opened several years ago following a decades-long struggle for county officials to buy land and build the facility.
In 2006, former Miami Lakes Vice Mayor Roberto Alonso, who was a realtor, discovered the property which belonged to FDOT. The state agency conveyed the property over to Miami-Dade for the fire station.
