Salah grant for Humane Society

Community Thursday, August 1, 2019

The Humane Society of Greater Miami received a very generous donation from The Salah Foundation that will help save countless dogs and cats in need of a “second chance” at life. The funds were granted directly to the Humane Society’s “Second Chance Fund,” which is dedicated to helping the organization provide medical care to sick and injured pets admitted to their shelter. These are services that go above and beyond the standard preventive vaccines and medical care every animal receives in-shelter and are many times life-saving.

“We are very grateful to The Salah Foundation for this generous contribution to our Second Chance Fund,” says Laurie Hoffman, Executive Director at the Humane Society of Greater Miami. “We have limited medical capabilities at our own clinics and frequently have to send our pets to local animal hospitals for further treatment; some of these pets are even in critical condition. It is thanks to The Salah Foundation and other community members who donate to our Second Chance Fund that we are able to give them the help they desperately need.” The Second Chance Fund helps animals who require more medical care than the average shelter dog or cat. Examples of ways the funds are used include treatment for heart worm and skin issues, X-rays, minor surgeries and even major surgeries. The care provided thanks to this special fund is imperative and truly life-changing for so many dogs and cats in need.

As a non-profit, charitable animal welfare organization, the Humane Society relies on grants and donations in order to be able to care for over 400 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens every day. Every penny helps the organization provide shelter, food, veterinary care and plenty of TLC for the homeless pets in our community.
