Six Cub Scouts earn Arrow of Light as Pack 660 marks 50th year

As Miami Lakes Cub Scout Pack 660 celebrates its 50th anniversary, six of the pack’s longtime members have earned Cub Scouting’s highest honor, the Arrow of Light.
The scouts are all fifth graders who have been with the pack for a number of years. During that time, they have learned and perfected camping skills, knots, Scouting lore, first aid, citizenship requirements, physical fitness, community service and much more. This has prepared them for a Board of Review in which they had to individually demonstrate their knowledge and defend their ideas in front of a governing board of adults.
In describing his journey to the Arrow of Light, Aidan Schwinghammer said, “It was incredibly hard but worth it!”
Den leader Sean Schwinghammer made it clear: “Boys need to be challenged when they are young so they can more easily take on larger challenges in the future. Achieving the Arrow of Light takes years and commitment and these boys were exemplary in earning the award and the praise that goes with it.”
The achievements were celebrated at the annual Blue and Bold Banquet held every February honoring the birthday of Cub Scouting. All of Park 660’s scouts and families came together to recognize the honorees and their leaders including retiring Pack Chairperson Stephany Acevedo, retiring Cub Master Schwinghammer and Damian Figueroa who served as Den Chief for the six scouts.
All bus one of the Cub Scouts have “crossed over” to Boy Scout troops. Pack 660 is chartered to Miami Lakes United Methodist Church and has been affiliated with Miami Lakes K-8 Center since its inception. The Pack meets every Thursday at 7 p.m. at the church. Cub Scouting is open to all boys in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.
