Neat Streets Miami awarded the Town of Miami Lakes a Street Tree Matching Grant on March 2 in the amount of $18,500 to assist in funding the West Lakes Reforestation Project Phase II.

The project benefits the West Lakes residential community and is consistent with the beautification Master Plan and Miami-Dade County Street Tree Master Plan Mission to enhance the county’s tree canopy to a minimum of 30 percent coverage by 2020.

This year, Neat Streets Miami awarded $250,000 to 14 organizations. As part of the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces department, Neat Streets Miami is a multi-jurisdictional county board dedicated to the maintenance and beautification of transportation corridors, gateways and connections.

Miami Lakes successfully completed Phase I of the West Lakes project by planting 37 trees with a previous grant from Neat Streets Miami. The new grant will assist the Town to complete Phase II with the planting of an estimated 53 trees to incorporate a uniform canopy in an area that is in great need of canopy trees.
