Sunrise Presbyterian Women's Group holds 2nd annual Tea Party

Religious Friday, July 5, 2013

On a recent Saturday afternoon, about 90 people gathered in the Fellowship Hall at Sunrise Presbyterian Church for the Second Annual Tea Party held by the Women’s Group. Although in existence for only 18 months, the group has been very active.

They held their first tea party last year, as well as a successful piano recital last November. The theme of this year’s tea party was “Choose Life,” in honor of the Wesley Chapel Crisis Pregnancy Center which was the beneficiary organization.

The Center’s director Yoi Reyes spoke of her life in Cuba and the numerous challenges she faced growing up. Although victimized as a young girl, she rose above her circumstances, eventually establishing the Center along with her husband Pete.

The tea party was not just about drinking tea, however. There was a healthy dose of fun thrown in for good measure. There were competitions for “Best Table,” “Best Hat,” “Best Tie,” as well as a gate prize and spot prizes. Joyce Johnson won for “Best Hat,” and last year’s winner Kaitlyn Jorgensen, 7, won everybody’s heart.

Since it was Armed Forces Day, appropriately Henry Rickett’s flag-inspired tie won in that category. Many of the guests were inspired by what they saw and decided to begin hosting tea parties of their own.
