Super Saturday at the Park on Nov. 4 features safety events

Miami Lakes’ Super Saturday at the Park at Picnic Park West, 15151 N.W. 82 Avenue, on November 4, offers its usual Community Bike Ride with registration at 9 a.m. for the 5-mile famliy-friendly loop, the popular Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Yoga in the Park and Boot Camp from 9 to 10 a.m.

The Town’s Public Safety Committee has added four other events dedicated to community safety awareness, prevention and well-being education.

Legal Clinic - The Elderly Affairs Committee along with the Miami Lakes Bar Association will host a Legal Forum from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mary Collins Community Center. A panel of attorneys and experts in the areas of probate, estate planning, foreclosure, credit fraud, and land issues will discuss these and other legal topics.

Paper Shredding Station – Super Saturday attendees will have an opportunity to bring their confidential documents, such as canceled checks, old financial statements, credit card offers, and other documents containing personal information, for on-site shredding provided by A Shread Ahead from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The station will be located in the Mary Collins Community Center parking lot.

 Self-Defense Workshop for Women – Specialized Investigations Consultants and Masters Investigations & Security will host a self-defense workshop to instruct women to be aware of dangerous situations, but also provide them with practical self-defense techniques proven effective in real world situations. The workshop will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Mary Collins Community Center. Participants must be 18 years or older, and comfortable workout attire is encouraged. MedSWISH Health Booth – FIU’s  Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine’s medical students working to improve society and health (MedSWISH), will be providing health screenings and education to Super Saturday attendees. The student-run community service organization will also offer stroke prevention and nutritional education, as well as free glucose, blood pressure and BMI screenings. The booth will be open from 9 a.m. to noon.
