The Zonta Club of Miami Lakes is launching 16 Days of Activism starting today.
The group, which belongs to Zonta International, has a mission to prevent violence against women; provide access to education for women and girls and to recognize their rights as human rights.
In Miami Lakes, a series of events are scheduled by the club’s membership of professional women to advocate for those values.
They include:
Nov. 23: The Zonta Club will be at the Miami Lakes Farmer’s Market to provide information about its causes.
Nov. 25: A banner demanding “No Violence Against Women” was scheduled to be hung outside the Mary Collins Community Center, 15151 NW 82nd Ave., Miami Lakes.
Dec. 3: A forum about human trafficking with the Office of Miami-Dade County State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle and its Human Trafficking Unit and The Zonta Club. Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St., Miami Lakes. 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Free. Attendees may donate gift cards, toiletries and clothing to the state attorney's office. Also that night, the landmark oak tree on Main Street will glow with orange lights as part of the campaign to stop violence against women.
