After six years as chair of the Youth Activities Task Force, Brian Rodriguez has stepped down. The town council recognized him during its Feb. 17 meeting for his total 14 years of volunteering on it.
“Not coming from just myself, but through all my colleagues, we want to take some time to honor the work that you did,” Mayor Josh Dieguez said. He mentioned Rodriguez’s leadership during events like the Halloween Nightmare on Montrose and the Spring Fling Easter event. Rodriguez thanked the town, current and former council members and his father, former Vice Mayor Nelson Rodriguez, who he credited with guiding him toward public service.
“He’s really what got me into this and got me into volunteering and giving back to my community,” Rodriguez said.
Hailie Prieto will be the next chair of the Task Force, one of a dozen town committees of volunteers. “I think it was time to pass the torch to someone new, someone young, with new ideas,” Rodriguez said. He will continue to serve on the task force.
