The Miami Lakes Town Council recognized Scout Troop 566 for 25 years of serving youth in the town. Chartered to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Parish, Committee Chairwoman Adriana Schwinghammer and Scoutmaster Sean Schwinghammer lead the troop. Activities stalled during the pandemic but the couple’s son Aidan urged them to resume scouting, his father said in an email. Aidan went on to become an Eagle Scout, one of 37 troop members who have achieved that rank.
The scouts’ contributions include maintaining the flag disposal box at Town Hall. Boy Scouts of America allowed girls to join troops five years ago and girls are among Troop 566’s 30 members. Troop 566 G-Troop was founded for girls and Scoutmaster Ginger Fernandez runs it. The troops combine scouting goals with Catholic principles, Sean Schwinghammer said.
On Feb. 18, Vice Mayor Bryan Morera presented a proclamation to Troop 566, who presented the colors at the meeting.
