State Representatives Manny Diaz Jr. (R-Hialeah) and Jose Oliva (R-Hialeah), and Senator Rene Garcia (R-Hialeah) make a great team for the Town of Miami Lakes.
The three politicos teamed up during the 2014 Florida Legislative Session in Tallahassee and delivered $1.3 million for two major storm water drainage projects for Miami Lakes on the heels of a visit by Mayor Wayne Slaton and councilmembers, who requested the funding on behalf of the town.
The projects are crucial to Miami Lakes and its residents, and the lawmakers worked together during Miami-Dade Days to secure the money.
“These projects are important to the Town of Miami Lakes,” said Oliva. “We will always fight on behalf of our constituents.”
The Miami Lakes Canal Bank stabilization project received $1 million in Florida’s budget that will fund geotechnical testing, surveying and engineering design of upgrades for bank stabilization and landscaping.
Miami Lakes also received $300,000 for the second part of the West Lakes drainage improvement project and will complete the drainage system retrofit and installation of new exfiltration trenches.
“I would like to thank Rep. Oliva, Senator Garcia and Delegation Chair Eddy Gonzalez – as a team we were able to make sure our community’s needs were met in the state budget,” said Diaz.
Town staff cautiously awaits confirmation of the state funds pending possible line item vetoes by Governor Rick Scott.
