This cute baby’s photo was taken in Managua, Nicaragua in the late 1970s. The child is wearing short overalls with an applique, and his dog Charlie stays close by.

While he is not a household name in town, he is a distance runner and can regularly be seen getting in his miles in Veterans Park and Royal Oaks Park.

He is also a U.S. Army veteran who served in combat in Afghanistan before his discharge as a captain. He lives with his family in Miami Lakes.

     Did you guess correctly?

If you guessed that this issue’s cute baby is Julio Torres, you are correct!

Torres, 46, lives in Miami Lakes with his family, mother Damaris Torres, father Julio Cesar Torres, and brother Bryan C. Torres. He also has a brother, Gean Torres and sisters Damaris M. Torres and Marjorie Torres.

An avid runner, he recently completed a half-marathon.

Before his service in the U.S. Army, Torres graduated from American Senior High School, Class of  1997, and Florida International University where he majored in criminal justice.

“Reading The Miami Laker makes me feel like I belong in the community,” Torres said. His favorite sections are the Community Calendar, where he finds events that he attends, and the Pets of Miami Lakes column.
