Community By Megan Jacobo, Reporter Thursday, May 6, 2021

Solomon Larrimore, 57, lives in Miami Gardens.

Miami Lakes is known for its beginnings as the Graham family’s dairy farm, and Holstein dairy calves still graze in pastures in town.

Larrimore oversees calf operations for The Graham Companies and has worked for the firm for 32 years.

Larrimore is married to Elma Larrimore and they have five children: Yvette Larrimore, Iris Larrimore, Elma Larrimore, Paul Larrimore and Erin Larrimore.

Q: Where are you from, and what is your background?

A: I was born in Nassau, in the Bahamas. I attended college for about three and a half years, studying electrical engineering.

Q: What do you like about Miami Lakes?

I like the area because it’s kind of isolated, and it reminds me of my childhood. It’s like a second home to me.

Q: What do you dislike about the town?

A: I haven’t thought about that. I come to work, do what I have to do and go back home. No complaints.

Q: What are your responsibilities?

A: I am in charge of the cows. Their well-being is my responsibility. I oversee four pastures and 130 cows in total. I feed the cows and make sure the fences are taken care of.

If a fence has been cut, I have to repair it to make sure the cows stay in place. Thankfully, that hasn’t happened in a while.

When the cows are ready to breed, we move them to Moore Haven.

Q: What is your biggest accomplishment, whether in your personal life or career?

A: Definitely my family.

Keeping my family together is the most important thing.

Q: What would you rather be doing/do you have a fantasy career?

A: I wish I could work in the electrical field like I studied back home.

Q: What are you reading or what podcasts are you listening to?

A: I haven’t really read much but every once in a while, I read my bible.

Q: What have you binge- watched on TV?

A: I rarely watch TV, but when I do I like to watch sports or action movies.

Q: Where did you last travel to on vacation?

A: It’s been a long time since I went on vacation, but I would love to go to Australia.
