Gina Rose Montalto was a 14-year-old girl, one of 17 students and staff who were killed in 2018 during a shooting massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
Gina Rose’s death inspired her parents Jennifer and Anthony Montalto to become activists for safe schools.
They also created the Gina Rose Montalto Memorial Foundation in honor of their daughter.
The foundation is offering several scholarships, including a $5,000 gift for which seniors at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School may apply.
Jennifer Montalto graduated from HML in 1987, and Gina Rose’s uncle Luke Sherlock was in the Class of ’88.
Applicants should know who Gina Rose was, and what the arts scholarship stands for, the foundation website says.
They should also be pursuing studies in the arts. Gina Rose was a dancer and artist who also excelled in STEM classes, her family says.
She was kind and loved learning, and the scholarship winner should reflect her values.
Students who are from families of United Airlines employees may also apply for the scholarship.
The deadline to submit an application is May 2nd.
For more information about the scholarship and to download an application, go to WWW.GinaRose MontaltoMemorial Foundation.org/artsapplication.
