In a February tradition spanning over three decades, Monsignor Edward Pace High School seniors have been packing their bags and sweaters to travel to Canada for the annual senior trip. This year, 68 seniors and eight chaperones flew to Montreal from February 16 through 20 for a trip of snow, skiing, shopping, maple syrup, and faith.
After landing in Montreal at 1 a.m. the night before, the seniors and their chaperones spent their first full day skiing and snowboarding on the slopes at the ski station Belle Neigel. For many seniors, this was their first time not only skiing, but experiencing snow altogether.
The next two days involved snow tubing down Mont Avila, snacking on sticks of frozen maple syrup at a sugar shack, and skating in Montreal. Students and chaperones spent most of their nights in Camp Edphy, which has hosted the Pace seniors for decades.
The trip wasn’t entirely in the snow, as the group went into the city of Montreal itself on February 19. They visited the breath-taking Basilica of Notre Dame and St. Joseph’s Shrine and even went shopping in Old Montreal.
After a final morning of snow activities including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding, the group flew home to South Florida, having created memories that will last a lifetime.
“The most memorable things were the sights I saw like the forests covered in snow,” said senior Jose Colmenares.
