On December 6, the senior class at Dade Christian School presented Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital with money they raised and toys they collected. This fundraiser started last year with the junior class so this is the second year they’ve been doing this.
Early last year, the donation was monetary; however, this year they were able to give money as well as toys from the kindergarten and elementary students. They wanted to do something to help in the fight for a cure for cancer and they wanted to gear it towards children. They decided that during the month of October, Cancer Awareness Month, they would fundraise for Joe DiMaggio.
Dade Christian teaches its students that it is not about the incentive but about the willingness to give and help others. It is about having a servant's heart. Some students and parents gave without even taking the incentive that was offered to them. Their goal is to continue doing this fundraiser for years to come. “I believe it's always good to give back and to make a difference in this world “ said Mrs. Grant-Allen, secondary english teacher.
