American High names Juan Toro as Teacher of the Year

Juan Toro is the 2019 Teacher of the Year for American High School (AHS). Toro joined AHS’s faculty 12 years ago. Since his arrival, he has taken on several responsibilities. He is an engaging member of the Sunshine Committee, EESAC committee, a leader in the mathematics department, and overall an asset to the school. With his lively nature and expertise, he has positively influenced the culture of the mathematics team, and impacted the lives of his students.
According to the school administration, Toro is a fantastic Algebra I teacher. His 9th grade students adore him. His colleagues find him welcoming and a joy to work with. He is pleasing, genuine, hard-working, and a true team player.
Toro has been teaching for 19 years, 12 of those years at AHS. He received a Bachelor Degree in Physical Education from Florida A & M University and a Masters Degree in Exceptional Student Education from Florida Memorial University.
