Banners to honor grads

Congratulations to the Class of 2020!
Although graduations have been canceled during the coronavirus outbreak and seniors won’t be able to walk across a stage, there is still a way to commemorate their hard work.
“It’s important during these times to celebrate the little things that make life special,” said Miami Lakes Councilman Luis Collazo. “Honoring graduates is just one way we can continue to build and deliver positive news.”
So the Town of Miami Lakes is offering to create banners for high school seniors who live in town. The banners will hang for three months from light poles along town roads and will be similar to those currently displayed along Miami Lakes Drive that recognize the town’s veterans.
A banner costs $105 and will be printed with the senior’s photo, name and school.
The town has sold more than 60 banners so far, according to Clarisell De Cardenas, the town’s communications and community affairs director.
Town Manager
Edward Pidermann said the program was not a money-making one for Miami Lakes, and that the cost of a banner will cover manufacturing, installation and removal.
The deadline to order a banner is June 7.
Once the keepsakes are taken down later this year, they will be given to the graduates.
An order form is available at www.miamilakes-fl.gov/classof2020.
