Education Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Bob Graham Education Center (BGEC) named Vanessa Acosta as Teacher of the Year and Roxanna Rodriguez as Rookie Teacher of the Year for the 2013-2014 school year.

Acosta began her teaching career in 1998 at Poinciana Park where she taught first, second, and fourth grade. In 2003, after five years at Poinciana Park, Acosta began teaching at BGEC.

Acosta's philosophy has always been to provide her students with the opportunity  to develop the skills necessary to succeed at the elementary school level and beyond. This is the second time Acosta has been recognized as Teacher of the Year; she was first named Rookie Teacher of the Year during her first year of teaching.

Rodriguez began her teaching career four years ago at a local charter school. During her first year she taught the fourth grade and the following year she taught the third grade in mathematics, social studies and science. Rodriguez then joined BGEC and began working with students with autism spectrum disorders.
