Bob Graham Education Center’s Civic Engagement Academy eighth grade students placed third at the We the People National Invitational in Washington D.C. hosted by the Center of Civic Education on April 29 through May 3. Under the direction of Jackeline Hernandez and John Brady, this year’s team broke new ground marking the first time a Florida team advanced to the final round.
“We are truly honored to be among the other top three schools which are such formidable contenders like Virginia, which placed first, and Indiana which placed second. The fact that we fought our way up to the final round against seasoned teams shows the caliber of our CEA students. It's a testament to our diligence, hard work, and dedication,” said Hernandez.
“Thank you to our teachers, parents, administrators, sponsor Ceasar Mestre, and the local legal community who have all supported us immensely this year and made it possible for us to represent our beautiful town of Miami Lakes,” said Hernandez.
The students from the Civic Engagement Academy left an unforgettable mark as they prepare to graduate and enter high school.
“Our graduates will leave Bob Graham Education Center with unforgettable memories, an understanding of our country’s rich history, and a passion for the office of the citizen,” school officials said. “They have truly perfected the legacy.”
