BGEC students make nutritious muffins for service project

Bob Graham Education Center celebrated the sixth grade Civics Engagement Academy (CEA) students on their Lead to Feed service project they have been working on this year. The name of their project is “Lovin' Muffins.”

They have donated over 1,200 muffins throughout four months to the Center for Family and Child Enrichment Inc., an agency that has group homes and foster homes for children in state custody.

The students made muffins that are delicious but also nutritious because of a secret vegetable ingredient. The students have made four different muffins –  pumpkin, vanilla, chocolate chip and chocolate. The muffins had mixed in the batter either pureed squash, beets, pumpkin, or carrots. The students researched recipes, baked, packaged, tagged and delivered the muffins themselves.

They also completed 10 lessons on leadership and service with the Lead to Feed Program with the help and guidance of their teacher Ingy Cruz.
