Hialeah-Miami Lakes Adult Education Center is offering courses for the 2020-2021 school year.

“The classes will allow students to graduate and go to college or to a technical school,” said Assistant Principal Yamilka Sena.

Though classes began Aug. 26, students can continue to enroll for online lessons.

Students may eventually be allowed to return to classes in the school building later in the year.

Adult education courses include citizenship; child care and earning a GED.

English for Speakers of Other Languages, or ESOL, is one of the popular programs, Sena said.

It offers English classes to students who speak other languages and are 16 and older.

They do not need to be enrolled in a regular public school to participate.

Sena said ESOL classes help students learn to speak and write English to they may find better jobs, expand their learning opportunities and participate in the education of their children.
