The last time Dade Christian’s football team was on the field, the players’ resilient performance merited a standing ovation from the flash-bulb popping crowd following the state championship game.
The cheers reached a crescendo, as the team hoisted the trophy but the opposing team got the bigger plaudit and accolade.
The Crusaders lost the championship game 28-10 after leading the first two quarters, but the team was praised for reaching the biggest stage in high school football after it was devastated by injuries during the regular season and playoffs.
In fact, most players were forced to play both sides of the ball to offset the depleted team.
The road to the state championship game was a difficult journey for the Crusaders but they hope to travel down a less bumpier road during the upcoming season.
In their season opener on August 30, Dade Christian defeated North Broward 21-7.
