Florida International University has appointed four alumni as officers of its Foundation Board of Directors.
Established in 1969, the FIU Foundation, Inc. is registered as a charitable organization and serves to encourage, solicit and administer donations to the university.
Richard Brilliant, Humberto “Burt” Cabañas, Andre L. Teixeira and Jill M. Granat have been selected as officers, tasked with leading philanthropic initiatives for FIU.
Brilliant, who will chair the Foundation, serves a chief audit officer for Carnival Corp., where he manages an international team of about 100 staffers. He reports directly to the company’s board of directors on the design and effectiveness of financial, operational, safety, health and security risks for the corporation’s nine brands.
Cabañas, founder and chairman of hospitality management company Benchmark, was appointed vice-chairperson.
Appointed as treasurer, Teixeira is executive vice president and Chief Financial Officer of The Graham Companies, a privately owned real estate company based in Miami Lakes.
Granat will serve as secretary to the Foundation. She is general counsel for fast-food restaurant conglomerate Restaurant Brands International, whose brands include Burger King and Popeye’s.
“It is a privilege to have these four respected individuals lead our Foundation Board,” said Foundation CEO Howard Lipman. “Each person brings a wealth of talent and a unique background that will benefit both FIU and the community we serve.”
