Florida International University is ranked among the top 100 public universities in the U.S., moving up 22 spots from last year’s rank, according to the Florida Board of Governor’s performance metrics.

It is the first time in school history that FIU cracked the 100 ranking.

“This rise in rankings reflects the hard work of our faculty and staff, and the determination of our students to excel. Our improvement demonstrates that our focus on student success, timely graduation and preparation to take or create great jobs, is making a difference for our students and their families,” said FIU president Mark B. Rosenberg.

Among all universities, public and private, FIU also ranked 187th overall in U.S. News and World Report’s rankings. The university has 18 programs that are currently ranked in the Top 100.

U.S. News & World Report has been providing the education rankings, which are used by parents and students to select schools, since 1983.
