Florida Trend magazine selected Miami-Dade Public Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho as one of Florida’s Most Influential business leaders in its latest edition in a new section recognizing community advocates.
The inaugural special section of the publication highlights the 500 most influential executives in different economic sectors throughout the state of Florida.
The editorial staff recognizes the state’s most influential business leaders spanning across more than 60 business categories, and the editorial selection of the 500 executives was based on extensive contacts in regional business circles, hundreds of interviews and months of research, culminating in a highly selective biographical guide to the people who help shape Florida.
Carvalho, who was appointed superintendent in 2008, manages the fourth largest school district in the U.S. with more than 346,000 students and 52,000 employees.
In 2014, the American Association of School Administrators named Carvalho National Superintendent of the Year. Earlier this year, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio named him the city’s next Department of Education Chancellor, but he turned down the appointment.
For the first time ever, Miami-Dade County Public Schools had no “F” schools last year.
Carvalho was honored for his his latest recognition by Florida Trend magazine.
“I owe it all to my 48,000 colleagues at Miami-Dade County Public Schools,” Carvalho said.
