Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board (EAC) announced the winners of the 2017 Miami Lakes Future Leaders Scholarships presented by The Graham Companies. The two winners were commended for their accomplishments and introduced at the May 2 Town Council meeting.
The $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Melany Hernandez and Esteban Guio.
Hernandez, with a 5.077 GPA from School of Advanced Studies, will be attending Emory University. She hopes to become an anesthesiologist.
Guio, with a 5.168 GPA from Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, will be attending the University of Chicago. He hopes to become an attorney and run for political office in the future.
Many Miami Lakes resident high school seniors who demonstrated extraordinary dedication to academic achievement and community service applied this year. The EAC expressed pride in Miami Lakes having so many bright and engaging young people and wished the students continued success throughout their college career and on.
