JetStream Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Miami Lakes, awarded a $1,500 scholarship to Gabriel Hernandez, a senior at Barbara Goleman High School.

As a Juntos Avanzamos credit union, JetStream partnered with Coopera to identify a local Hispanic high school senior who was a deserving scholarship recipient.

Students that participate in the Finance Academy at Barbara Goleman were asked to submit essays that described why they should be considered for the grant. Certain pre-requisites had to be met including grade point average, considering a career in business, and community involvement.

Various essays were submitted, but Hernandez’s definitely stood out. He is a scholar athlete. He plays football and soccer, for which he serves as team captain. A member of the National Honor Society, he maintains a weighted GPA of 4.8. He also finds time to volunteer in the community with over 200 hours of community service including tutoring for immigrant students.

His goal is to become an accountant/financial advisor.

“At JetStream Federal, we feel the need to help the professionals of tomorrow by providing them with the tools they need today to build a better future,” said Vanessa Miranda, manager of HR and Community Outreach.
