Goleman Senior High School student Rebecca Vega has a long history of academic achievement and her latest addition to the growing list is her recognition and invitation to receive the Future Physicians and Medical Scientists Award of Excellence at a conference held in Boston in June. This award is granted to those students who maintained a high GPA and are pursuing a career in medicine.

Vega is a former Cambridge Academy student at Miami Lakes Middle School where she participated in the successful civic project “We the People” which won awards at district, state and national levels. She received a Certificate of Excellence and 2013 Project Citizen Superior Achievement Award from the hands of the then-Mayor of Miami Lakes Ceasar Mestre.

Vega also participated in the “Project Citizen” competition. She and her group proposed an initiative that granted the passing of a Miami-Dade County ordinance for school bus safety. This earned Vega a Certificate of Achievement from State Senator Rene Garcia.

At Goleman, Vega will graduate in the top 5 percent of her senior class as a Summa Cum Laude honor student.
