The Graham Companies, along with elected officials and officials from the Sistema Universitario Ana G. Mendez broke ground on June 23 on the future site of the new Sistema Universitario Ana G. Mendez South Florida campus located in Miami Lakes Business Park West.

Designed by Roux Architects and being constructed by Miller Construction, the 50,000 square-foot building is anticipated to be used as a showcase for the university.

Sistema Universitario Ana G. Mendez is the largest private university in Puerto Rico. System-wide, there are over 40,000 students. The school uses a Dual Language Immersion  Model focusing on the development of English and Spanish language skills.

The goal is to develop students who can function professionally in both languages while offering over 16 different undergraduate and graduate degrees in program fields including engineering, education, nursing and business administration.

“Today is a true celebration as construction begins on the Sistema Universitario Ana G. Mendez South Florida campus,” said Carol Wyllie, president of Graham Commercial. “It’s also an honor that they selected Miami Lakes to be the location for their new campus. The addition of the University will provide economic benefits to our local businesses as well as providing residents a higher education option in their own hometown.”

Wielding shovels at the ground breaking ceremony were Universitario Ana G. Mendez leaders, Graham Company officials including Carol Wyllie, president and CEO Stu Wyllie, members of the Miami Lakes Economic Development Committee, and Councilmembers Nelson Rodriguez, Manny Cid and Town Manager Alex Rey.

Estimated completion date for the building is May, 2017.
