School Board member Perla Tabares Hantman attended UTD Foundation: Real World Civic Engagement from the Classroom to the Community event on August 4 with former U.S. Senator, Bob Graham, at Lake Stevens Middle School.
“I am proud to have attended this event with Senator Graham, a longtime champion of public education,” said Hantman. “I would like to thank Jorge M. Bulnes, the principal of Lake Stevens Middle School, for hosting this wonderful occasion.”
The event illuminated on points Senator Graham made in his latest book, "America – The Owner’s Manual: You Can Fight City Hall – and Win.” The curriculum guide has been adapted for classroom use to help make civics more central to the lives of young people and to better equip them for the complexities of governing when they become adults.
