As proposed by chair Perla Tabares Hantman, the Miami-Dade School Board unanimously voted to endorse the 2016 “Welcome Back to School” Safety Flyer for distribution during the first week of school. Also endorsed were International “Walk to School Day” and the 5-E School Assessment Tool developed by the University of Miami’s Walksafe and Bikesafe programs.
“For the past several years the Community Traffic Safety Team has developed a school flyer years containing safety messages that promote student traffic safety at the elementary, middle and high school levels,” said Hantman.
“Student safety has always been near and dear to my heart, therefore I am proud to be able to bring forth initiatives that promote student safety by endorsing International ‘Walk to School Day,’ and a tool developed by the University of Miami that promotes walking and biking safety at schools,” she added.
