Miami-Dade County Public Schools recently launched the Lean and Green Initiative in conjunction with the Humane Society which label vegan and vegetarian options as well as offering morse fresh food choices and providing nutritional information.
MDCPS has long offered free breakfast during the school year and more recently free meals in select schools during the summer time. Another addition to MDCPS healthy initiatives is visitation from healthy food trucks that visit schools, such as Miami Lakes Educational Center, once a month with food options such as fruits, vegetables, and lean meats.
