HML announces required reading list for all students

Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High School’s 2016-2017 summer reading list has titles divided by grade level. All students are required to complete the readings prior to the launch of the new school year. Following the readings students are to complete one of four projects listed on HML’s homepage at www.hmltrojans.org.

Freshmen students are required to read Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway, Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie, and The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. 

Sophomores have been assigned The Book Thief by Mark Zusak,Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll, Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, and Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder. 

Juniors must read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton, and Turn of the Screw by Henry James. 

Seniors must read Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, The Secret Sharer by Joseph Conrad, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, The Wizard of Oz by Shakespeare L. Frankbaum, and Don Quixote Vol. 1 by Miguel de Cervantes. 

ELL students’ suggested reading list includes Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Nazario, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, In The Time of Butterflies by Julia Alvarez, and El Viejo y el Mar by Ernest Hemingway.
