Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High sent off three teams of two from the DECA Club to compete at states in Orlando for Marketing Communication, Sports Entertainment and Buying and Merchandising.

The teams included Ryan Menendez, Chris Hernandez, Aileen Martinez,  Amanda Moreno, Jessica Basallo, and Bryan Jardines, who were required to take a 100 question test and act within a business scenario. The teams had 30 minutes to come up with business plans that reached the goals outlined in the scenario, followed by 10 minutes to present to the judges.
The teams brought home two 5th place trophies and one 6th place trophy for their work in their respective categories. Following their experience at the states competition the teams regrouped for an International DECA competition for the 70th Annual International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in late April held in Nashville, Tennessee.
